today was a disappointment though only due to the impossibly high expectations i had.
over the weekend i had a debate tournament. it was one of my best days ever (others include my Bat Mitzvah and the Rookie prom). the days of the tournaments are always so intense. as soon as the topic is announced everyone sprints to their room to start preparation for the round. as one of my teammates' dad calls it, it is the "running of the nerds."
my team ended up doing extremely well-we came in first! the momentum from our win has been keeping me on a triumphant high all weekend.
i expected to walk into school monday morning, head held high greeted by pats on the back and "way to go!"s. everyone would recognize me as "that girl who won the gavel". cool seniors would bow down to me. i would be hoisted on their shoulders as they cheered my name. there would be parades! and balloons! and cookie cake with my face drawn in frosting!
imagine my surprise when none of this occurred (who'da thunk it?)
i must have looked pretty stupid walking around with a knowing grin on my face like, "yes, you may kiss my feet."
i wanted to scream at everyone who past me "I AM COOL OK I AM SMART OK? ACKNOWLEDGE ME! ACKNOWLEDGE MY TRIUMPHS! I WON YOU GUYS!"
oh well. my own head chorus was almost as good. (wait i have a head chorus now?)
so fyi, if you see me, a parade would be appreciated (or at least bow down! where is the respect in this generation?)
i'll be waiting.
